I made it to my 530am meeting, but I did not comb my hair or wear pants :)
Zoom is a pretty cool app – important to keep it pointed at your face!!
It was neat to be on with my team and the new boss, all talking together about our plans. It was a game-time decision; at 525am, I was still on the fence. Time well spent.
I went downstairs to the café after the call and redeemed my free latte. The barista talked at length about how difficult it is to find organic protein (he’s a body builder, and I think he was talking about those powdered drinks and protein bars and how much sucralose they contain, which = yuck to him).
I went outside into the crisp, morning air and ran into the fresh product delivery driver – a woman. A rarity in that line of work, especially hauling a huge 18-wheeler on her own, and unloading it. She said there are 8,000 employees in her company and 4 women, total. And you can bet your bottom dollar she has to hustle hard to keep her place.
Lone Pine has the finest coffee in this area (imho). I tried their Maple Latte with Almond milk and it’s not bad. I had a toasted waffle with the syrup already laced onto it. Delicious. It is a 2-cup day for sure. I am not sure I have peeled my eyelids back yet.
The guy next to me just sneezed twice into his (girl)friend’s face – and coffee, both times without saying anything, and when she cheers’d him with her coffee, he just looked at her until she looked away, and she looked over at me, and we both raised our eyebrows. Shots fired. He would get the pillow over his head in the middle night for sure.
I’ve seen a lot of mountain bikes with the huge, fat tires going at it on trails that cross the highway. The major highway is 97, but it still has Bike Crossing signs up everywhere. I am hoping the mountains are less hazy today. My flight leaves early tomorrow and I have reminded myself that in Oregon you are not allowed to pump your own gas. I am not being carjacked. Repeat, do not leap knives out on the attendant tomorrow at 4am.
I am reminded of Dar Williams’ Whispering Pines this morning. I say you give that a whirl sometime today. Enjoy it all, wherever you are.
Inside my lonely room, there is no in between
Whispering pines, rising of the tide,
If only one star shines
That's just enough to get inside,
I will wait until it all goes around
With you in sight, the lost are found,
Foghorn through the night, calling out to sea
Protect my only light, 'cause she once belonged to me.
Let the waves rush in, let the seagulls cry
For if I live again, these hopes will never die,
I can feel you standing there
But I don't see you anywhere,
Standing by the well, wishing for the rains
Reaching for the clouds, for nothing else remains,
Drifting in a daze, when evening will be done
Try looking through a haze,
At an empty house, in the cold, cold sun
I will wait until it all goes around,
With you in sight, the lost are foun
