The last 10 years have been hard for her. First she was diagnosed with MS while pregnant with her second child, then breast cancer, twice, then a brain tumor a month ago and then this week it was all she could do, she was all done with trying.
She patiently taught me my job 14 years ago. She had jokes and was silly and goofy when I was tense and focused. She was patient and thoughtful. She was my team mate for the first few years and she helped me navigate the strange waters.
I called a former coworker on the way home yesterday. He told me a funny story about her, his favorite memory of them. We both laughed together and sighed on top of that, silent, listening to the echo of her in the air. I have a feeling all of us will be sharing our memories together just like that at the memorial service.
Her smile was bright and wide and her laugh is still ringing in my ears.
